A Look At Music Videos
The song "Like You'll Never See Me Again" is a song by Alicia Keys; one of the most popular soul and R&B artists to this day. It was released in November 2007 and reached number twelve on the Billboard Hot 100. .
Initial Reaction: When i first viewed this music video, it made me feel very emotional. The music and images they were showing caught my attention and made me really want to listen to the story. The people who created this music video wanted to tell a story and reach out to the audience so that they could feel the emotions that the artist is expressing.
Analysis and Interpretation: This video shows a variety of emotional clips that come together to tell a story. The creators of this music video really wanted the audience to listen and relate to the message they are trying to portray. This music video is very emotional because it shows a woman going through a hard time, and she almost loses the person that she loves. The creators of this music video also added timed events that weren't in order so that the audience could put the story together themselves. This makes the audience pay more attention to what is going on so that they fully understand and get the full grasp of what they are trying to tell you. The main theme and message of this music video is to live in the moment because you never know what will happen. You never know what you have until you lose it so don't take the people that you love for granted.
Consideration of cultural context: Artists usually write songs when they are inspired, or need to express their feelings. I think that Alicia Keys probably went through a similar situation, therefore making her want to send a message out to people. She probably took someone for granted, and didn't realize it until she had almost lost that person.
Expression of Aesthetic Judgement: I think that this whole music video is amazing. The lyrics, the music and the cinematography all coincide to send the same message and reach out to the audience. The music and lyrics are very heavy and emotional, and the visuals help bring the story together to make the message stronger. When you listen and view everything together, it really makes you listen to what this artist is trying to say.
Ongoing Reflection: This music video really made me pay attention to the story that it is telling and it really made me want to listen. It sent out a great message that really inspired me. Sometimes, we get so caught up in life, that we forget about the people we love. We can take so many things for granted and sometimes it takes a lot for us to realize it. You just have to remember that you never know what you have until it's gone, so be thankful and don't take anyone for granted.

ReplyDeleteI love this song! It teaches you to never leave off at a bad note because you'll never know what will happen. I like how the times aren't in order and how they tell a story. The music video is a great reminder to us that we should never take anything for granted because we'll never realize what we have until it's gone.
ReplyDeleteI really like how clips aren't in order of when they happened. It made me pay attention to the video more and like you said, i got the theme better because I had to put them together myself. If it was different and they were put in the order they happened, i wouldn't get the same understanding of the video because I wouldn't pay as much attention to it. The theme is also one, people need to remember because we often take things for granted and only realize this when they are gone. Alicia Keys did a great job showing this theme with her lyrics and video.

The video shows emotional states of Keys and other actors. Finally, I also agree with your ongoing reflection, life is certainly short, and we should realize and show love and care to those we love and who love us, before its too late.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy watching this video as well! The video is really emotional and it just makes you want to watch it many more times. A lot of us go through hard times and maybe even perhaps losing someone really close to us, so many of us can also relate to the video. The video brings out a great message for all of us that we should not forget about the things in life that matter and to not take anything for granted.
